A flue is not a component you can see for yourself. That is why we will first tell you exactly what the problem is. Sometimes the problem lies in a single loose connection or a damaged seal, and a targeted repair is sufficient. If the flue is too old, incorrectly installed, or unsuitable for the boiler connected to it, we will tell you that just as clearly.
The work is carried out by our own permanent technicians, not by hired parties. They are CO-certified and work in accordance with the Gas Boiler Act and the manufacturer's maintenance instructions. You provide a warranty on the work we perform, and the installed parts are additionally covered by the brand's manufacturer's warranty.
How flue gas exhaust problems arise
We encounter four causes most frequently in Amsterdam homes:
Obsolete material. Older flues are corroded after years of exposure to condensation and flue gases. Seals harden, and connections become loose.
Incorrect assembly. A flue gas exhaust duct must be secured at the correct distance using the proper brackets. If the bracing is insufficient, the duct will sag, causing connections to come loose without you noticing.
A drain that does not fit the boiler. Not every flue is suitable for every central heating boiler. It happens that a modern high-efficiency boiler is installed on a flue that was never intended for it.
Work that was skipped during a previous boiler replacement. This is the cause we see most often and the one that poses the greatest risk. When installing a new central heating boiler, the flue was not included, or only partially included, even though this was necessary for safety. We regularly encounter this situation in homes where the boiler itself is still virtually new.

How can you tell if there is something wrong with my flue?
These signs indicate a problem with the flue or flue:
- Recurring central heating boiler malfunctions
- Strange odors in the room where the boiler is located
- Moisture stains on the wall or ceiling around the drain
- Condensation leaking from a connection
- Soot formation around the boiler or the pipe penetration
- A carbon monoxide detector going off
There is an important caveat: a problem with the flue is by no means always noticeable. A duct may appear gas-tight but not be. Therefore, we check the flue as standard during the annual maintenance and with every installation, even if you are not experiencing any problems.
Frequently asked questions about flue gas discharge
No. Work on a flue falls under the Gas Boiler Act and may only be carried out by a technician with the proper certification. This is not a formality: an incorrectly installed or non-gas-tight duct can introduce carbon monoxide into the home. Our technicians are CO-certified.
Not always, but much more often than happens in practice. Not every existing flue is suitable for a new high-efficiency boiler, and materials that have been in use for years should not simply be connected to a new appliance. We therefore always assess the flue before installing a boiler and include what is necessary directly in the quotation, so that you do not incur additional costs later.
You cannot reliably see this from the outside. Malfunctions, soot buildup, or traces of moisture are clear signals, but a duct can also leak without visible abnormalities. A check during annual maintenance is the only way to be certain about this.
Yes. We include the entire route, from the boiler connection up to and including the roof or facade penetration.
If the flue is suitable for the boiler, properly braced, and the connections are gas-tight, the exhaust simply remains in place. We do not profit from unnecessary work, and it is of no use to you if we replace something that will last for years. What we do, however, is tell you honestly when it *does* need to be removed. That is precisely the moment when things go wrong with the installations we encounter: either no inspection was made at the time, or an inspection was made without anything being said.
How much does it cost to replace a flue?
